Open Day 27 April 2019

Hayling Island’s very own model boat club is holding another open day to give Island residents a chance to learn more about the hobby and to entice a few more to join the club.

Open day 2017

The open day is on Saturday 27th April at the club’s home waters at Mill Rythe Holiday Village, running from 10.30 am to 3.00 pm. There will be signs from the car park for those who are not sure of the exact location.  (Assiduous readers may recall an open day was planned for last September. However, this clashed with the Harley Davidson rally at Mill Rythe and the open day had to be postponed – the club offers apologies to anyone who went along on that day.)

There will be plenty of model boats of all types on display and afloat (conditions permitting), from elegant yachts to sleek warships and pretty well anything in between.  If you are already a modeller or are looking for a relaxing, engaging hobby, you are invited to come along and see what the hobby has to offer. The club meets throughout the year on Thursdays or Fridays (to fit in with Mill Rythe’s programme) and Sundays.

HIMBC members run all types of model boat – sail, steam and electric, home built or bought off the shelf.  The only limitations are on petrol engined boats (too noisy) or really fast electric (the lake’s a little small for that) but just about anything else is fine.  Some very casual races for sail and electric power are organised once a month and the club also runs occasional special days (such as family days and evening sails to show off boats equipped with lights) but the rest of the time it is an informal gathering to run the boats, talk about models and set the world to rights.

If you want to know more but can’t make the 27th, have a chat to Greg (02392 466472) or Andy (02392 460233) or pop along on any Sunday morning from 10.30.
